Also known as the Blue Macaw This is the largest parrot with a length of up to 40 inches. Mostly blue with black under its wings and yellow under it beak and around the eyes. This bird can crack open coconuts with it's beak, so you don't want one that bites and it's imperative that you start teaching them at a very early age. In addition because of the strength of their beaks you will need a specialized cage. They can easily rip apart most parrot cages. On the plus side they are the most friendly and easy going of all the Macaws. If you have the room and the time to spend with them they are easy to tame and very affectionate. Blue and Gold Macaw
The Blue and Gold Macaw is the most commonly available macaw Golden underparts, blue on the head, back and wings and green forehead and is close to 3 feet long. Green Wing Macaw is often called the red and green macaw this is the second largest of the macaw species. Very colorful with red on the head, shoulders and breast. The wings are green with blue on the outside edges. The tail is blue and red. They have tiny red feathers form lines around the eyes. Green Wing Macaws have a more docile and sweet nature than some of the other macaws and is considered one of the gentlest. Scarlet Macaws are mostly scarlet colored with blue on the wings and tail with a yellow band on the upper wings below a scarlet shoulder. They are between 30 and 35 inches long half of which is it's long slender tail. Scarlet Macaws tend to be more high strung than the other macaws, and has a tendency to pinch when young which can lead to biting if not discouraged early on. At 27 inches Military Macaws slightly smaller than most of the other large macaws They are mostly green with blue flight feathers. Red tail feathers bordered with blue. Although the colors may sound more drab you will be surprised at how alive they are when you see one. Military Macaws are very cuddly, docile and not as active as some of the other large macaws. Red Fronted Macaws are the smallest of the large macaws at 24 inches in length, it could be classified as a mini macaw. They are green with a red forehead and a red patch over it's eyes. Their primary wing feathers are blue and red on the bend of the wings. Red Fronted Macaws are not as noisy as the other large macaws with pleasant voices. They have a great personality, and are comical and attentive with a mischievous nature.
