Green Conure Pets

The Green Conure is a small parrot at 12.5 inches in length.

They are native to eastern and southern Mexico.

Their overall color is green with yellowish-green on the breast, belly, underside of the tail and underside of the flight feathers.

They have orange to red iris a horn colored bill and gray feet.

Green Conures As Pets

As long as they have been properly socialized they generally make good family pets.

The trick is to teach your children how to handle a parrot and that the conure gets regular interaction with everyone.

Once they become used to the children they enjoy the extra activity and attention.

They are very social birds and the family is their flock so it's important that it gets lots of attention.

They may not be the best talking parrots but they are smart and good at learning tricks.

All conure species will develop behavior problems if they get bored so aside from the daily interaction with the family they need a variety of toys to play with.

A final note about conure birds as pets. If noise is a problem you might be better of with a parakeet bird.

Green Conure Care

Parrots that are fed an all seed diet can become obese. A pellet diet supplemented with fruits and vegetables is a better choice.

You can feed your conure some seeds and you can use them as rewards while training them.

Conures are active birds that need exercise. It should be let out of it's cage as much as possible to allow it to roam around and play.

Just as with all parrots you need to supervise your green conure while it is outside the cage because they chew and they are curious. They can cause a lot of damage to a room or to themselves if you leave them alone.

Green Conure Bird Cages

It's always best to get the biggest cage that you can for a parrot.

There needs to be room for them to move about as well as to hold all the toys, perches and dishes that they need.

The minimum sized cage you should get is 30 X 30 inches and 35 inches high.

There should be at least 3 different perches of different diameters in the cage and they need to be far enough away from the bars to prevent it from ruining it's tail feathers.

There should be bars above the bottom of the cage to allow the dropping to fall through and the bottom should be lined with paper rather than bedding material.

As long as you can put up with their loud voices and they get enough socialization a green cheek conure is a good choice for a pet parrot.
